VÚPS, Czech Republic
Research Institute of Brewing and Malting (VÚPS) founded in 1887 is a private research institution, which focuses its research on malting and brewing raw material and technologies. VÚPS carries out analytical and technological research activities concerning the quality of malting barley and hops, the malting and brewing technology, the quality of malt and beer, the development of functional beverages and foods based on cereals and fermentation, Xenobiotics, pollutants and food safety, the development of new analytical procedures and technologies. Specific research for the beverage industry and the implementation of research results into industrial practice are carried out as well. Analytical laboratories and pilot malting/brewing lines of VÚPS are accredited according to ČSN EN ISO/IEC 17025.
VÚPS is Workpackage leader of WP5 (MSD Case Study – brewing). VUPS will contribute to define the specifications of the MSD together with the sensor manufacturers, will perform multiple experiments of hopped wort preparation, using raw input materials with different malt composition and will modify brewing process to achieve sufficient variety of measured input-output parameters. VÚPS will calibrate MSD prototype using standard laboratory reference methods, will test it in a pilot plant of 50L setting of the automatically controlled brew-house and will perform a pre-validation of the predictive models in a large pilot plant (300L).
